The organization accomplishes this mission through various programs and services, such as daycare, after-school care, career services, financial assistance, a food pantry, etc.
Carmela Pattillo is in charge of the career services events that New Life Community Alliance holds to connect job seekers with organizations needing help.
Challenge: Spread awareness, increase attendance, and improve engagement for hiring events
When Carmela started doing the hiring events frequently, the primary challenge was spreading awareness to the entire community of Decatur, Georgia.
New Life Community Alliance held three hiring events annually and wanted to improve engagement and attendance at each event.
She needed a solution to inform job seekers about the event, provide effortless access to resources, and provide a quick way to sign up if people found it worthwhile.
The ideal solution Carmela needed would help with:
- Quick and easy way to point job seekers to a signup form
- Get data to understand where job seekers are coming from to find the right hiring organizations
- Get feedback directly from job seekers and hiring organizations after events
Solution: QR Codes to connect the community, gather feedback, and deliver data
After disappointing attendance numbers for the first few events, Carmela decided to rethink her marketing strategy.
“What can we do to make it easier for people to register and easier for people to find us?” she recalled wondering.
The idea of using a QR Code came to her because “almost everyone has a smartphone. It’s easy for people to scan one of the signs we’ve placed around town, click the link, and register.”
Besides being easily accessible, the team was keen on gathering feedback from the attendees and hiring managers to optimize their events using QR Codes.
The goal was to gauge whether the event continues to deliver the best value for hiring managers and job seekers and provide the community with value-added services it needs.
According to Carmela: “I wanted a solution that had everything in one place—QR Codes, forms, landing pages, and the data I need to see to see where we’re successful and where we can improve.” They found all the prerequisites built into Uniqode.
Results: 20x more attendees, 2x more feedback, and improved details
Carmela’s idea paid off.
Attendance doubled for the next event and continued to increase over the following several events. Today, almost two years later, they expect nearly 20 times more people for their next hiring event.
QR Codes are also instrumental in improving and increasing the feedback loop for the events. She says, “We have feedback QR Codes directly in the welcome packet for employers who are working with us.
We ask if they got the kind of employees they were seeking and how we could improve. For job seekers, we ask for feedback on their needs more generally, the types of employment they’re looking for, and their demographic information to help us provide the services our community needs.”
Her feedback strategy has also improved the quality and quantity of responses.
“Our responses have more than doubled, and the feedback we get is often more in-depth. The feedback we’ve received has helped us offer the right services as an organization, invite more people from the community to hiring events, and get the right employers out to our events,” explains Carmela.
