How Uncorked Jamaica Increases Takeout Efficiency and Return Customer Frequency
Robyn-Kay Campbell is the communications officer for Uncorked Jamaica, handling everything related to marketing and social media for all three locations.
Like most restaurants, the team was forced to pivot their processes and strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They found success with takeout food but needed a solution to share their menu digitally instead of relying on physical menus, such as in the past.
Challenge: Increase takeout order efficiency while maintaining a good experience
“We wanted to have people see our menu for takeout orders. We needed the transactions fast because people couldn’t leave their houses for long during the pandemic,” says Robyn-Kay Campbell.
At the same time, Campbell wanted people to have the menu accessible from their homes so they could call in and place an order, but they also needed the menu to be updated frequently as they changed their offerings.
So, they needed a solution that:
✅ Customers could easily access the menu
✅ Uncorked Jamaica would be able to update the menu
✅ It’s something people would want to keep in their homes
Solution: QR Code signs and refrigerator magnets for easy and efficient ordering
Campbell and the team settled on a solution they’re still using today, even after the emergency restrictions have passed: dynamic QR Codes.
“We made the QR Codes in refrigerator magnets and gave one to each person in their takeout bag. It solved our need for efficiency in takeout orders, and it still serves as a great marketing channel,” says Robyn-Kay.
They also placed QR Codes on signs around the takeout area, allowing customers to see the menu and choose their items quickly.
What was a quick fix, before they knew it, became a long-term marketing strategy. The magnets now sit on the refrigerators of existing customers, reminding them of the delicious food at Uncorked whenever they see it. And the best part: unlike most branded merch, the QR Code in the fridge magnet is interactive and has a call to action!
The team also realized that QR Code menus could be a powerful communication channel for sharing events and offers. They now update their landing page to include their current offers when they have them, driving even more traffic to their locations.
According to Robin-Kay: “We knew we wanted a QR Code, but we had no idea how it all worked. Uniqode gives us the ability to quickly and easily create a QR Code and customize it by adding our logo. It’s been super user-friendly, easy to understand and adds in analytics that help us optimize where we need to.”
Results: Shorter lines, more return orders
When Robyn-Kay looked at the metrics on Uniqode, they realized that people were still using the QR Codes long after they were given to customers. Realizing this creates brand equity, the team continued using the QR Codes.
For Uncorked Jamaica, the QR Codes continue to make take-out orders more efficient, with shorter lines because customers can scan the menu and choose their items directly in line or from refrigerator magnets in their homes.
She also notes that with every new menu update, they see an uptick in visits to the menu page and orders placed.
The team can find all the QR Code scan metrics in the Uniqode dashboard, which allows them to plan future promotions, communication, and optimizations.
According to Robyn-Kay, QR Codes will continue to be a part of their strategy, noting that they’re opening a fourth restaurant with a different concept and menu. They’ll create a new QR Code, landing page, and refrigerator magnet to promote the new restaurant.
